Pray for the persecuted church in Laos
The following email from the Mission ONE field representative in southeast Asia provides details of specific Christians who are being persecuted. Please pray for these saints and their families who are suffering.
5 January 2006
I have urgent prayer requests for our Lao believers and leaders. We are still working very hard to help our fellow Lao believers.
Mr. Vangthong and Mr. Khamchan. Both of these Christian leaders are still being imprisoned in Savannakhet province, Laos. Although the Lao authorities informed the world community that these men were charged and imprisoned for being involved in the illegal sale of bullets. However, the authorities keep telling the two men that if they sign an affidavit to renounce Christ, they will be released immediately. If they don’t renounce Christ, their release will not be insured. Currently, Mr. K is experiencing critical health problems—his legs are swollen but can not receive medical attention. Please pray for both of these Christian leaders. The Lao Christian leaders have petitioned the Savannakhet provincial religious affairs for the release of these two men but their petition has been denied.
Muang Nong district, Savannakhet province, Laos. On Dec. 07, 2005, Mr. Khamsorn, the chief of Toonmakmee village (Nong district, Savannakhet province, Laos) issued an eviction letter to Mrs. Meud and her family to leave Toonmakee village and move Adarn village (Phin district, Savannakhet province, Laos) to live with other Lao Christians since Toonmakmee village does not want any Christians living in their village. Please pray for Mrs. Meud and her family and many others who are being evicted from their home village.
Pastor Aroun Varopom. The Lao authorities claimed that that Pastor Aroun’s death was resulted from being robbed. However, the Lao Christian community in Laos has done their own investigation and has drawn a preliminary conclusion that Aroun was murdered because of Aroun was responsible for the surging growth and expansion of Lao churches in Borikhamxay province. He is responsible for reviving many Christian churches and also for establishing a large number of new churches among the Khamu and Hmong ethnic groups. Aroun’s death resembles the death of Mr. Chiang Sung, who was Aroun’s father-in-law.
Many years ago, because Chiang Sung was the Christian leader in Borikhamxay province who was responsible for the expansion of Christianity in Borikhamxay province, he was imprisoned and later was released from prison and shot dead. Also, Pastor Aroun was imprisoned previously for leading the Christians in Borikhamxay province and was later released. Now on December 23, he is murdered. The night before his murder, the eyewitnesses saw Pastor Aroun talking to several people, who appeared to be acquaintances and Pastor Aroun went with these people and disappeared. It is concluded that he couldn’t be robbed by his acquaintances. Also, if Mr. Aroun and his friends were robbed, where the bodies of his acquaintances. These acquaintances are believed to be special units who had to order to get rid of Pastor Aroun because of his zealous involvement in the fast expansion of Christianity in Borikhamxay province. His body was not allowed to be buried in his home village. His body was buried in Vientiane province, Laos. Please pray for his family.
