Millions are hungry in Kenya

The following email from Pastor Bedan Muiruri to Bob Schindler, dated January 23, 2006, outlies his ministry in a part of Kenya where there has been widespread hunger and famine. For news about the Kenya famine, click here.

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your letter, I was really eager to get it any time. The Lord has been good to us as a family. The church is doing fine and I thank the Lord for
those who got saved last year. As we opened the year my prayer is to give us a big harvest of souls.

I have just recieve the check for the orphans and the widows. The office of the Bishop had been closed in the month of December and part of January 2006. We are planning to come to Nairobi with Hannah to buy the Blankets and the Shoes, so that we can give them. We shall also buy some maize meal and cooking oil for the widows. As soon as I give them I will send you the full report.

The situation is alarming in our country since three and a half of the population is hungry. It has been delared a national disaster by the Government and alot of the people can only get relief foods. The animals are dying and the people have started dying too. The problem is it has not rained for a long time, if only you read news of Kenya, there is a big drought. We are also trusting in God.

My main concern is the big number of people coming to our house looking for food since they can't get anywhere else. Last night a lady came crying to our house that they have not had food for three days and the kids are crying soo much. Hannah had to give her a little rice of what we were having. Some time you give utill you have nothing to give.

Brother I hope you will be coming to visit us this time, when you come to Africa. We are living at a place called Gachika in Gatundu. Our home is about 70
Kilometers from Nairobi (northwest of Nairobi). The only problem to our place are the roads, one has to drive very slowly at times. Please pass my love to your wife. I am waiting to hear from you soon. I am still praying for the Good samaritan project. I belief at God's timing He will provide the money neccesary to assist those in great need. I am praying for you too. Pray for the crusades coming in April 2006.

Pr. Bedan Muiruri
