The Bible reveals a story about God:
“The Story of His Glory.”
From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture speaks of the glory of God.
The Psalmist wrote, “Be still and know that I am God; I will
be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Throughout the history of ancient Israel—from Abraham, to the
Exodus, to David and the prophets—to the life of Christ, the
epistles of Paul, and John’s prophetic vision—the worship
and glory of God is the main theme.
The goal of The Story is the glory of God in Christ among
all peoples.
God promised Abraham that through his seed, “all the families
of the earth” would be blessed. Jesus told his disciples to
“make disciples of all nations,” or ethne, meaning people
groups. Revelation pictures heaven with a diverse choir of worshippers,
redeemed by the blood of Christ “from every tribe and tongue
and people and nation.” Every people group on earth will offer
its own unique worship to God.
The diversity/unity of Jesus’ followers is vital for global
mission.
Jesus taught that the supernatural unity of His followers is a prerequisite
for global mission. Jesus prayed, “that they all may be one,
as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one
in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” Unity among
Jesus’ followers is a vivid witness, locally and globally—that
God so loved the world, He gave His only Son, Jesus, to be our Savior.
The Church is an obedient, worshipful harmony of local discipleship
and global mission.
Jesus gave the Great Commission to the whole Church. Every church
is to make disciples in its local community; every church must also
go into all the world, making disciples among other tribes and nations.
Ultimately, the Church has one mission: to establish communities of
true worshippers among all peoples, that Jesus may receive the full
reward for His sufferings.
